If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Of Course....the ODay 272 LE is a great sailing, great looking sailboat. We have a slip, but often anchor out to cook and spend the night, and she is just a beautiful creation.....The grey hull won the focus groups held in Boston Harbor and its easy to see why.
Gear that's been added Knot meter, gps/ sonar, I added a crown moulding in the salon, I added a slilverware cabinet in the galley.. We recovered the quarterberth cushion with green vinyl to make it waterproof. Added a Raritan PHII head...Added 12,000 BTU air conditioner by Mermaid...(should have added 16,000 btu.s...but 12, 000 is fine for sleeping at night. Added cockpit cushions w/red maroon pin strip to match sail cover and bbq cover....
Structural or complex improvements Inn my opinion, the cockpit needs to be beefed up....Weve had this boat since 1986 so probably will not happen in my lifetime....although I believe it is a doable deal...
The boat's best features
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs We motored downwind in a 70 mph gust front out ahead of a severe storm...had to go 4 miles, but the boat handled like a dream....with the wheel steering...we watch 4 or 5 larger boats broach...so sindy it blew the lids of burning charcoal in the air, burning sail covers, etc....However, for some reason we did just fine...
Liveability fabulous
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They were out of business one year after we bought the boat....
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any He was a perfect partner...he was more excited to sell it to us than we were to buy it....picked it up in a Kansas Blizzard.....
Other comments We love her...she is one of the blessings in our lives...Weve had her since 1986...I talk about selling her as Im getting old, but I thinks probably better that I start working out.
