Review of the Oday 272 by MaritimeTees

Year built 1987
Location of boat Channel Islands, California
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2013
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely
Gear that's been added Chartplotter, 2017 Yamaha Outboard 9.9, Tillerpilot, Jib Clutches,Main Salon Handrails, Refridgeration, Spinnaker
Structural or complex improvements Handrails in Main Salon and Jib Clutches. Put bushings in the gudgeons to take up slack from wear.
The boat's best features The interior volume of the 272 and ease of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs The 272 has to reef at 12k or weather helm becomes an issue which is fine by me. Pointing up wind becomes an issue because of the shallow draft. Most of the time I have to reef because the winds are at least 15k in the Channel Islands Region.
Motoring characterisitcs My 272 is the outboard model and she motors like a dream.
Liveability N/A
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Rudy is a great resource for parts.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I have owned 3 different 27s and this by far is my all around favorite.
