Review of the Oday 27 by Matt Moran

Year built 1977
Location of boat Pamlico Sound
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yeah Definately. It has been a spectacular model to learn on and it has loads of room for two to three people.
Gear that's been added We havent added anything yet, and it isnt likely that we would add anything, except for a GPS so we can extend our cruises a bit further from home.
Structural or complex improvements no.
The boat's best features It is very heavy and pretty stable. It also has comfortable living conditions below as well as lots of storage for things you NEED.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The boat is 26 years old now and on a recent cruise we had the topping lift for the boom break on a hard jibe but that is it.
Sailing characterisitcs It is very forgiving and handles well. Its not the fastest boat but its not too slow either it can make about 7 knots in pretty high winds. Since it is soo heavy it is a little easier to let her heel more since we know she'll come right back up without a problem.
Motoring characterisitcs She motors well but takes a few seconds to slow down. We have an Evinrude 15 that i think wasnt the original engine but it works. Its pretty sketchy when changing from forward to reverse, but that isnt too much of a problem.
Liveability its pretty good for up to two weeks after that it is getting cramped and time to go home.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I love it.
