repairs to an old Widgeon

posted 09-12-2008 by Woody Mills

Centerboard: The rear rope that pulls the centerboard down was getting wedged in between the centerboard and the trunk, making it impossible to raise and lower the centerboard by the ropes and pulleys. For a temporary fix, I drilled a hole at the top rear of the trunk and used a dowel to push down the centerboard. Once I learned what the problem was, I cut an 18 length of washing machine hose and threaded that over the rear centerboard line inside the trunk. The thickness of the hose now prevents the line from getting stuck between the centerboard and trunk.
