Modifications to Time ODay 1965 Mariner

posted 05-27-2009 by codfather

I use my Mariner for extended trips of a week or more. She may not be as pretty as some other boats, but I have had a lot of miles pass under her hull. I removed the Head and tiny sink. I hate through hull fittings or anything that puts a hole in my hull. A stainless bucket will do for a Head and a tupperware tub makes for a bigger sink and can be stashed away when not needed. I have installed a Coleman cooler where the Head used to be, my ice lasts much longer now that my cooler is inside. The canvas that served to seal off the cabin dissapeared long before I bought the boat, so I improvised a cabin wall from a folding hardboard art supply box that I seperated into two units and glassed them to the cabin back and added some small doors for access. I installed a large round window on the stbd side addition. I added some port and stbd cubby holes to the cockpit for fishing gear and boat bumpers etc. I got tired of the leveling shim under my Outboard motor mount cracking and coming loose all the time, so I cut out a small bit of the transom at that spot and re-glassed it in, so the top edge is now parallel to my water line without a shim. Other than that she is pretty well stock and a joy to sail.
