Review of the Oday 32 by Terry Ray

Year built 1975
Location of boat Newport News,Va
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes,I've found the boat to be very reliable, handels well to windward and is very comfortable in rough water. With a lot of TLC, I have had many comments on the looks and condition of the boat.
Gear that's been added Hood furling headsail,a backup forestay that can be used in conjuction with the hank on headsail and roller furling out when running downwind. Davits & sailing dingy, and a full bimini with enclosure for rain/cool weather makes a nice sun room on winter days.
Structural or complex improvements ac refridgeration and microwave for dockside comfort. Also, an ultra quiet honda generator to power these at anchor if needed. I've also built a smaller table that folds down and around the mast ,opening up the salon area.
The boat's best features Roomy cockpit and aft cabin
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. replacing the fresh water engine pump.($$$$$$$ highway robbery)
Sailing characterisitcs with double reefed main and storm jib, she will flat a-- fly.
Motoring characterisitcs living on the chesapeake, you find yourself void of wind quite often in the summer months, and the 30 hp westerbeaka w 3 blade prop moves in very well.
Liveability GREAT!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments all around, a great boat
