Review of the Oday 322 by Tally Ho

Year built 1988
Location of boat East Chicago, IN (Lake Michigan)
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2013
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. She has a few flaws, but overall, she is a great boat for the money. She sails well, and has a great cabin.
Gear that's been added Mack Pack - The large main was a handful when trying to lower it when single-handed.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The boat sails well, has a functional cabin, well-equipped galley and is a lot of fun to sail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. While I have not had any specific issues, the keel joint is certainly a weak point on this boat. 4 keel bolts and a very small keel stub is a weak point. I would not want to take her across the ocean....but I feel comfortable on her in Lake Michigan.
Sailing characterisitcs She sails fairly fast ( I have been over 8 knots in 25+ knots of wind). She points up fairly well and she is easy to single-hand.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 2GM20F is probably a little undersized, but it pushes the boat at 6 knots easy enough.
Liveability She has a very functional cabin....comfortable berths, the salon and table are functional, the galley is well-equipped with stove/oven, refrigerator, and 2-bowl sink. The head is pretty large for a 32-footer and has a shower with shower sump pump.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Nope
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Nope
Other comments She was a futuristic boat for the 80s, and a lot of boat for the money today.
