Review of the Oday 30 by Kim Victorine

Owner bought the boat in 2003  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The O'Day 30 is a large 30 footer with alot of room in the cabin. The cockpit is small, but comfortable and very dry.  
Gear that's been added Hood Roller furler. New main and 135% genoa. All new halyards and canvas.  
Structural or complex improvements None were needed. Survey showed a very sound 23 year old boat.  
The boat's best features The 30 sails well and is comfortable under sail with a very easy motion. I enjoy the wide deck around the coach top which makes going forward a breeze in any condition.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing worth noting. We do need to replace all PHI plastic opening ports. Not too bad after 23 years of use.  
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well on all points, except can be a little slow dead down wind in light breeze. A real preformer in 12 - 18 kts upwind and on a reach. Very stiff, no need to reef until >20 kts. Have had two wonderful trips to Catalina Isalnd.  
Motoring characterisitcs Universal 16 is sound. Good motoring at 5.5 to 5.8 kts. Very stingy with fuel at half throttle. Our engine has less than 1000 hours on it, so with continued Preventive Maintenance should continue to provide good service. We change the oil and filter every 3 months. Fuel filters evey 6 months.  
Liveability Very comfortable for a couple. We like the full dinette on the starboard side. Is very comfortable for entertaining with large passage way for and aft.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought thru broker. We were treated fine and would reccommend the broker to anyone selling or looking to buy.  
Other comments Great boat for the price. We found a sound boat owned by a couple on hard times. We got a great deal, at least in our opinion. Everyone who has been on our boat at the dock or sailing has walked away very impressed.
