Review of the Oday 28 by Bob Brownell

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes  
Gear that's been added All new sails, spinaker gear, bladed prop, cockpit speakers, run all lines back to the cockpit.  
Structural or complex improvements Running the halyards back to the cockpit. It improves the ability to sail the boat with a light or inexperienced crew and adds to the enjoyment of your sailing experience.  
The boat's best features The stability even in heavy winds, the downwind performance with a chute, the room in the cabin for a 28 footer.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The walk of the boat in reverse, although the bladed prop has corrected that for the most part.  
Sailing characterisitcs The Oday 28 is a wonderful downwind and beam sailboat. Upwind it lacks the ability to point and is sluggish.  
Motoring characterisitcs The Oday motors well in protected waters. It uses only a very small amount of fuel and the engine is extremely reliable.  
Liveability There is a great deal of room for a 28 footer and the berths are very comfortable. The head and shower are closed off from the cabin and stern. The ice box is fairly large and the galley has plenty of storage. Storage for other items is lacking a bit but something had to be sacrificed for all the other accomadations.

Other comments The Oday 28 is a wonderful starter boat to learn on and to raise a younger family on. The stability even in high winds allows you to recover from errors that other boats would make you pay for. It is a great boat to cruise in as long as you keep the crew to 4 or less.
