Review of the Oday 27 by Sam Gnagey

Year built 1965
Location of boat Port Clinton, OH
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it's been the perfect craft to develop my skills and knowledge.
Gear that's been added Roller furling, bow pulpit anchor mounts, lazy jacks, replaced the Yanmar diesel with same. Added hour meter.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Good qualities sailing to windward. Ease of comming about.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No outhaul on the main. No anchor locker on the foredeck. I'd like to replace the alcohol stove soon. Needs a fuel gauge.
Sailing characterisitcs Very responsive boat. Quite forgiving for a novice sailor.
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar diesel 8-horse is a bit under-powered for the boat.
Liveability Very comfortable for 3 or 4.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments It's been a great boat, and I look forward to many more delightful summers sailing her.
