Review of the Oday 26 by mike johnson

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2001  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. This boat has been used for our training platform.  
Gear that's been added Yes. New North Sails(2002) New turn buckles, new battery, new boom vang(did not have one)bought a used 6 hp Johnson outboard (I would recomend a 9.9 hp for the current and tide we see in the delta and S.F. Bay.)  
Structural or complex improvements No. The boat seems very strong and fast. I'm at a loss this is my first sail boat so i have nothing to compare it to.  
The boat's best features The boat seems very roomy and comfortable. When we sail we normaly have 3 or more people abord.The boat seems quite fast for it's size. i've kept pace with much larger boats.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the deck has some grazing and cracking at stress points like the forward cleats and in the cockpit near the winches on the cocpit seats.The teak spreader ends were broken so i made some from white oak from a branch of one of my trees.  
Sailing characterisitcs the boat sails into the wind very well.It has some weather helm. It handles the S.F. Bay winds very well.  
Motoring characterisitcs It has on it a used 6 hp Johnson two stroke. I would like to have a 9.9 four stroke but i'll have to change the motor mount for a stronger one to support the 112 pounds the new motor will weigh.  
Liveability The boat is used for weekend sailing. It will sleep 4 people for short periods. Any longer than that it becomes cramped.

The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The boat was purchased from a broker.I would have liked to talked to the owner to get basic info seeing this was my first boat.  
Other comments Boat seems very safe and secure. A wonderful platform to teach myself and family to sail.
