Review of the Oday 26 by K. Hodges

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. This is a perfect boat for weekends, and longer.  
Gear that's been added Raymarine ST-1000 Autopilot. No need for the ST-2000 as the 1000 keeps up just fine. Make sure the rudder fittings are tight with no slop so it doesn't "seek" all the time.  
Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features Ease of sailing/handling. My wife and I can crew this boat easily. Enclosed head is a must for having the occasional guest aboard. Nice to have a boat with real teak.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Only thing to watch that I know of is the chainplates. A known maintanance "watcher" for O'Days of this approx. age. If they're caulked, no problem, do it right.  
Sailing characterisitcs I've sailed with a roller-furling 150 genoa, geneker and main sail in all configurations, on all points of sail; in winds up to 20 kts. In high winds with all sail up, she will go to the rails and can feel mushy/unstable at the rudder if the wind gusts, but not uncontrollable. The rudder has never stalled. I do not sail this way regularly, but have tried it out. On most "normal" wind days, she sails nice, points well.  
Motoring characterisitcs I use an Evinrude 9.9 Yachtwin. Enough power.  
Liveability For weekends or up to a week or two she's nice. I'm onboard Fri night to Mon morning most summer weekends with wife and young daughter. We slip at a marina with a shower, and cook-out on a BBQ. She's workable in this capacity. I wouldn't use her for a long-term live-aboard, but as a trailer-sailor, she's above average.
