Review of the Oday 26 by Neil Franklin

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2004  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No. It is too light for it's length as it "bounces" rather than plow in chop or passing boat's wakes. The shoal-draft keel is inadequate for wind over 15 knots. Parts are too hard to come by and expensive for a boat no longer manufactured. Further, this is a rare Yanmar 1GM10 inboard-powered with Edson wheel steering. The outboard steering linkage is not hard enough to withstand wear in the moving joints thus there is too much slop in the steering. Anchoring requires brute strength to lift the anchor and chain off the pulpit to reduce damage to the gel coat and even more so when weighing anchor. Otherwise, in ideal conditions, it's been a fun boat to sail.

Sailing characterisitcs Sails well in 5 - 15 knot winds; points well  
Motoring characterisitcs Diesel uses one-tenth gallon per hour  
Liveability Okay for a weekend with a good air mattress
