Review of the Oday 25 by norm ellis

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes! I moved up to the o'day from a Northwest 21. Tons of room.

Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features The centerboard. My moorage is very cheap, but at extreme low tide there is about a metre of water under the keel. With the keel up and the outboard swung almost 90%, I can manouvere in very tight situations. Also in crowded anchorages I can anchor closer to shallow water than most.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. None so far.  
Sailing characterisitcs A bit tender when the wind goes in excess of 12-15 knots. I need to reef the main sooner than later. I have roller furling (came with the boat). I've become a convert. The boat balances well by rolling it in when winds increase beyond the 15 knot mark. I find the o'day points well into the wind.  
Motoring characterisitcs The 9.9 Johnson saildrive is more than adequate. I sometimes buck up to 4 knots of current entering the harbour. More than that and I have to wait.  
Liveability Excellent for weekend or week long outings. Lots of room in the V-berth and a roomy main cabin.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I got an excellent deal through the broker. It was December and business was slow. The price was well below US dollar prices I've seen. The boat was in excellent condition.  
Other comments I'm very happy with it.
