Review of the Oday 25 by Paul Wetmore

Owner bought the boat in 2001  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I can't imagine getting more boat for the money. The boat is 27 yrs old and still looks and operates beautifully. Having moved up from a swing keel clipper 21 it is nice to have the comfort of the fixed keel in the often choppy waters of Long Island.  
Gear that's been added The boat was fully equipped including auto helm but I'm adding the upgraded GPS for theis season and a bimini.  
Structural or complex improvements Added a roller furling. I loved hanking the sail on but won't miss folding the sail on the dock with the kids.  
The boat's best features The boat is easy to sail. Handles under power with ease making the return to the slip much less stressful. Quite a bit of room for storage. Definitely a dry boat. Less than five gallons of water pumped from the bilge all season. Appreciate the 15 gal fuel tank and not having to deal with the cans.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rebuilt the original stove and works great now. The wiring is fairly simple but a hassle to change the mast light.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails great withe genoa up until you get above 15 knots. Have had the boat cruising at 7knots water speed plenty of times. Not a racing boat but the trade off is ease of sailing and light on the pocketbook.  
Motoring characterisitcs 15 hp mariner and the boat cruises at 4-5 knots but will get to 5.5 if your willing to push the motor and beat it up for the extra small amount of speed. About a gallon an hour at cruising speed.  
Liveability We have been out for 5 days with the wife and kids. It would be nice to have more room but its only a twenty five. The shore power is a plus as are the dual batteries. The v-berth is too small for my wife and I to sleep together comfortably but the rest of the sleeping areas are good size.

The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought it form a private owner but certainly have no complaints. Included everything and was honest about the deal.  
Other comments Very happy with O'day. My next boat will be an O'day but a larger model.
