Review of the Oday 25 by Ric Shultz

Year built 1975
Location of boat Lake Winnipausaki, NH
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Storm sail, internal fuel tank, compass, depth, water pump, stereo and more.
Structural or complex improvements I got a great deal on a boat I could rehab. Totally redid everything. Painted all from rub rail down, varnished all teak in and out, internal fuel tank, new instruments and more. The 1975 model was over built so the hull is 3/4 to 1 inch thick. Sails well and soild as a rock.
The boat's best features Interior room, soild feel, many made, easy to sail, good lines.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rudders are known to be weak and I added strenght to mine.
Sailing characterisitcs Points up good, but tend over 15 knots. I have a storm a 90, a 135, 155 and a 170 so short of no wind, I can make it go. Easy to single hand with a tiller tamer, handles rough water well and shoal draft makes it easy to get places others can't.
Motoring characterisitcs I ahve a 9.9 and it is plenty. Doesn't back well, but what sail boat does. They are designed to go forward.
Liveability Great for 2 people and was good for 4 when my kids were under 10. A little small now that htey are older but that works out as the wife and I can go alone now. Would like the cock pit to be a little larger.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It was just OK, not the best.
Other comments I have it on a trailer, in a yard where I can launch with my 4x4. My annual fees are under $700 and it takes 10 minutes in and out. Love it.
