Review of the Oday 25 by ron thweatt

Year built 1978
Location of boat Nashville
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? This is my 3rd oday 25 i think yes
Gear that's been added 6foot Bimini, moved the mainsheet attachment 9 inches toward the mast to clear the bimini, new stearn rail, new rope for the center board, lifelines with back rest, moved the gas tank from the inside to the outside with a quick connect to the omc, lots of canves covers,grill,2 batt with double switch, led lights below, swing stove and 4 hella fans, air cond for shore hook up,nav table where the quarter birth was, lots of teak vents thats about it
Structural or complex improvements moving the standard 12 gal omc gas tank to the trash and adding 2 3 gal plastic tanks to the cockpit with a quick connect that runs from the rear of the cockpit to the omc, new blowers that draw less apms and lots of neat stuff from over 30 years of sailing and having 31 diffrent boats as well as 2 other newer oday 25 should have stoped at the first new one
The boat's best features Not the best looking boat have been through 30 others trying to find one that looks more like a sail boat but all ways had to give up the room below and the felling that this boat could take any thing that comes its way my boat is a 78 and in better than most boats at our club that are new and cost over 100 grand I only have $6500 in mine if the omc goes out I will just hang a outboard off the rear so far the omc runs great look forward to spending additional time for health reasons.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Hate those opening ports they allways leak, and get left open , i am thinking of removing them and putting lexan over the holes this was done on the last 25 i had and they never leaked. Other than that Nothing after having 3
Sailing characterisitcs This boat will sail great with just the 150 pulled out, or with the main on ly it is forgiving and new folks to sailing always love there first sail, that starts with the correct boat and a capt that does not have to show his boat will "TIP" a lot and he can put the rail under, better to leave that to just when its me and GOD on board.
Motoring characterisitcs only diffrence i can tell in this boat and the out board is the prop warsh you get from the omc prop, have motored my other boats 100's of river miles using a 9.9 out board I think a tiller tammer is going to help on the river trip if I wish she would not have the omc and have a 9.9 honda and If I keep her Will find some one to pull the omc and plug the hole and add the 9.9
Liveability Have spent lots of great nights onboard by myself ,just with my wife and lived aboard for 2 weeks with wife me and 2 teen age kids
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Have done it all you just need to know you are getting a boat that is used and KNOW what she is worth to you not the seller.
Other comments Nope think I have said it all would like to raise the area over the comp way and add a perm set of sides and ports to give better what ever but think I will leave it alone
