Gear that's been added I changed the bow rubber snubber on the trailer to over the bow padeye instead of under it.Added a 150% genoa and some genoa tracks and blocks outside of cockpit coaming. Also two lewmar winches on cockpit coaming 4 the 150.I also added a harkins mainsheet traveler system mounted on a custom teak bed just aft of the companion way hatch. Also a 85%working jib, storm jib,and a second set of jiffy reef points on the mainsail, and another jib halyard as all jibs but the original 110% are hank ons. And finally a whisker pole 4 good measure. A topping lift an bow pulpit anchor holder onerer[ danforth kind] Also made a shading tarp that mounts over boom when at anchor.
Structural or complex improvements see above traveller
The boat's best features Its forgiving ,small enough to manhandle if need be ,comfortable inside and out ,easy 2 trailer launch and retrieve, handlable when wind kicks up 20 to 30mph, easy to set up ,less than 30 minutes when in practice setting up[a little longer if out of practice].
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Snapped centerboard off one day even with the bottom of the keel. Oday replaced it though after I argued with them, and sent it back to them for inspection. The new board is a solid core one. The board that broke was laminated foam. I think the lamination gave way and split the fiberglass. I was able to retreive it[ on its tether].Anyway when oday inspected it they could see that there was not any abuse[dings or gouges etc].The new one has been trouble free. An anchor locker would be nice. Boat sails all around 180degrees of wind direction when anchored in a breeze[a stern anchor takes care of that]
Sailing characterisitcs Some racing ,mostly weekending, one trip to San Diego. Ocean sailing was cool[daysailing]. It seemed as though the boat could carry more canvas for a given wind speed than I used on the home lakes. A sailing buddy suggested this was because the ocean winds wre steadier in strength and direction, as the lakes are all around the compass and gusty unless a front is movig thru.
Motoring characterisitcs A longshaft 6hp evinrude has given perfect service. Can turn on a dime and get 9cents change if using tiller and motor swivel at same time.
Liveability Spent 10 nights at a slip in San Diego, and numerous 4 or 5 day trips on the lakes, hot or cold weather, two adults two children and plenty comfortable
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
