Review of the Oday 22 by Ted

Year built 1980
Location of boat Presque Isle MI
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it's perfect for the inland lake sailing that I do.
Gear that's been added OMC gas cylinder O/B motor mount, halliard winches (2), mast raising/lowering gear, midboom sheeting; with a sort of midship traveler, teak trim accents, AM/FM stereo radio, 2m ham radio,Flexible Furler Headsail reef/furl device, slab mainsail reefing, stern pulpit, rewired electric system w/added fuses.
Structural or complex improvements See above.
The boat's best features Easy in/out of water, good sailing qualities, very responsive to reefing when wind is up.....she behves well to 30 mph wind when properly reefed. Shoal draft lends itself to shallow inland lakes.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Centerboard pennant is very inaccessible for service. Replacement requires a major effort at moving boat off center on its trailer.
Sailing characterisitcs `Light to heavy air, but with typical inland lake mild seas. a 2 ft wave is about the most we see on Grand Lake.
Motoring characterisitcs Boat does not track well undere power; not nearly as well as the Oday 25 I once owned did. A 9.9 HP engine is the perfect size.
Liveability It has never been used for cruising or overnighting. However headroom is lkimited, and access to head is very awkward/
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Not from a dealer.
