Review of the Oday 20 by Travis

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. O'Day is the best... I have had 3  
Gear that's been added Mine came used with a aftermarket mast... with stronger spredders and stronger stay system.  
Structural or complex improvements Not yet but I'm thinking about taking out the "wall" / bulkhead that seperates the v-birth from the galley and putting in a metal post under the mast step in its place... opening up the space like a modern catalina 22.  
The boat's best features Handles like a champ.. great for beginer or an old salt who wants to gunk hole around. ...you can spend a week on her... and pull her right up the the beach... cause she can float in a deep puddle.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Cockpit drain backed up... before I got it due to improper maintenance. Fiberglass is AWSOME all over the boat except the main sliding hatch is a LITTLE soft/thin.  
Sailing characterisitcs Smooth and easy in most places... worst I have had it in was about in 2-4 foot rollers... lot of roll when running down them... but cut through them great... little deck slap'n but fun.  
Motoring characterisitcs No problems except in the 4 foot stuff... blades from the prop coming out of the water... but that'l happen to any small boat with an outboard.

Other comments O'Day is the best boat out there... I grew up in the summers on a Catalina 30... And I have seen alot of boats. I bought a used 8ft O'Day sailing Dinghy... then a 12'4" Widgeon (Awesome little boat)... and then my O'Day 20.
