Review of the Oday 20 by Bob Cline

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I bought this boat for my son as a wedding present. I completely restored it this spring.I have owned a 25'Oday and a 31'Hunter. After sailing this boat I would have to say I was very surprized how well it sailed.I would purchase this boat again as I feel it's a great learning platform.  
Gear that's been added We equipped the boat for day sailing. We added acouple of wenches, some needed cleats,a boom- vag,and new sheets.We also reworked most of the electric system adding new interior lights,a 12 volt plug in, new battery and battery charger. For ventalation we addwed a forward PVC cowl to used when at anchor. This is removed when sailing.  
Structural or complex improvements Replaced stainless screw supporting deck from the sink and cooler side support boards. Old screws had backed out and seemed to small.Replaced hatch way door. Removed plywood in the back of the starboard quarter beth for more storage.  
The boat's best features It's easy to trailer. We pulled this boat from Indiana to Vermont with 6cylinder Trail Blazer. It's easy to rig,easy to sail, and a Great boat to learn how to sail.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems to date with boat. Just a problem with a fuel line to the outboard engine which was just a matter of purchasing a new one.  
Sailing characterisitcs Sailed better than I hoped. Was just alittle slow when coming about. With more practice this will be better. She sailed well in the 10 to 15 mph winds and surprized me how dry she was for such a small boat.  
Motoring characterisitcs This boat has 4hp Johnson. It moved the boat along fine. This is a sail boat so I see no need for added horse power.  
Liveability Two people would be fine for a week-end or one week trip. If there were four, you would have to be "really good friends". I see this boat more as a day sailer.

Other comments This resortation was a fun project. And the joy it's bringing my son and his new wife is pricelees!!!!!!!
