Review of the Oday 19 by Chris Swan

How the boat is used Day sailing  
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots  
Average size of crew 2-4  
Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2001  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, with perhaps some added equipment already installed on the boat.  
Gear that's been added Stern side rails, bow pulpit, lifelines, new standing rigging, new main sail, new OB motor, new centerboard pennant.  
Structural or complex improvements Replaced centerboard pennant, rebuilt trailer lighting system and rails, plus added trailer guides at rear for easier centering when pulling boat onto trailer after sailing.  
The boat's best features Very stable, enough room in cuddy cabin to escape storms or rest from sun while moored or pulled up to shore...and great for scooting around shallow waters of Norwalk Islands area of Western CT Long Island Sound.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Mast is extra long version, so it takes a little help to raise and lower...  
Sailing characterisitcs Boat wallows along, a bit slower than similar sized boats, due to wider beam and added weight.  
Motoring characterisitcs Motors fine...just slowly  
Liveability For one day, comfortable...for overnight, compact, kind of like camping in a pup tent.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from original owner, who was trading up to a Catalina 25  
Other comments Got the model pre-port lights on either side of the cuddy cabin...would have liked that feature on this boat...added light to cabin area. Also, a small working stove and sink space would have been nice.
