If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	The mariner is the first boat that we really owned -- although my friend and I had sailed quite a few others in the past. We really didn't know what to look for (condition of the boat) when we purchased this boat used. In retrospect, perhaps we could have paid less for this boat -- which has required a decent amount of work. It is an old boat and still a work in progress. I anticipate some serious fiberglass work at the end of the season. This all being said. . . the boat sails great and is a reallly fun and stable day sailer. It is quite responsive and has given us many hours of pleasure out on the Block Island sound. I would definitely recommend a mariner to anybody.
Gear that's been added	We bought a newer motor (our 2nd), we have also been replacing parts of the boat -- standing rigging, halyards, etc. No gear added.
Structural or complex improvements	Upon many suggestions, we added a centerpost inside the cabin under the mast foot. We read too many stories about people having their mast come through the deck.
The boat's best features	Trailerability, speed, beam, cockpit size, and overall upkeep cost -- we keep it on a trailer so we don't pay for any slip costs.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	Considering the age of our boat, everything is pretty good. It is a well-designed boat.
Sailing characterisitcs	This boat likes to be sailed in 2' or less seas. You can sail it in more, but it is not as enjoyable. On a broad reach you can easily exceed (measured with a gps) hull speed (5.9 kts) with a decent 10-15 kt wind. I don't know how much wind it takes to really get it up on plane, but our boat seems to move pretty well.
Motoring characterisitcs	The boat works well with our 6 hp outboard.
Liveability	Since our boat has virtually nothing inside the cabin (it was all removed -- as the boat was in long term storage in a yard) we only day sail. Perhaps we will build something into the cabin next year.
