Review of the Oday Mariner by Scott Stanley

Year built 1976
Location of boat North Carolina
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes this has been a wonderful boat, a pleasure to sail.
Gear that's been added I replaced all the running rigging, and added all uscg safety gear. I have restored this boat, it was in need of some tlc when I bought it. I paid $500.00 for boat and trailer. Doing mostly comsetic work to the boat I have added a 3.5 hp tanaka outboard. The boat is now in prestine condition and I still have less that $1500.00 in the boat. It shows that you can still sail a good boat and not break the bank.
Structural or complex improvements none needed
The boat's best features It's simple to rig, sail, and trailer. The boat is stable but yet still a spirited sailor. I think the mariner has wonderful lines and it's a real classly looking boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I had to replace the plywood backing plate on the stern where the grodgen bolts on to the boat. This may have been from over tightening and exposure to water from the previous owner.
Sailing characterisitcs As I mentioned before very stable and still spirited.
Motoring characterisitcs The 3.5hp does ok would like to have a larger outboard if I were in coastal waters. I got the Tanaka for $50.00 so I could not pass that deal up.
Liveability Overnite not live aboard!!!!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from a private party
Other comments GREAT BOAT
