Review of the Oday Mariner by Bill Larson

Year built 1981
Location of boat Bass River, MA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? ABSOLUTELY! Have not saiiled it yet! Sailed a 1969 Daysailer this summer (2005)in Nantucket Sound. Found current in Bass River to be too strong for a novice. Learned to sail previous summer in a 12' Paceship (1969) in the pond in top of river with no OB needed. 3.3 HP is enough for the tide and wind but 25 minutes to open water from my dock. Moved up to the Mariner for following- selfbailing, 4 1/2 HP OBwith gear shift and 6 gal. tank. No large CB trunk in way for friends on board!!
Gear that's been added Not yet, really don't need for my type of sailing. Radio on board to be removed as no electrical set up and will use cell phone for safety in "just off shore sailing."
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features As above- selfbailing cockpit, storage in cuddy, gas capacity for larger OB, CB trunk located mostly in cuddy for better cockpit area use and more seating area for me solo or for crew. Little better freeboard.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Unknown at present will update as the season comes!!
Sailing characterisitcs Not sail yet.
Motoring characterisitcs N/A
Liveability Do not intend to overnite etc. 72 year old powerboater doing things backward!!!!!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
