Review of the Oday Mariner by Tom Miter

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	Yes. I sailed quite often as a kid on an Oday sprite, and recently intoduced my wife to sailing on a vacation in Mexico. it didn't take much coaxing to convince her that we should by a sailboat, and the Mariner is the perfect fit for us.
Gear that's been added	Just USCG safety equipment, and we are experimenting with a trolling motor.
Structural or complex improvements	we replaced the starboard stay becouse it was starting to fray, otherwise nothing was needed.
The boat's best features	She's great for a beginner. I haven't sailed on a regular basis since 1979 when I was a teenager, and my wife is a complete novice, but learning fast. she's easy to rig, and trailers well. We eventually will have it all down to a science.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	Nothing. So far everything has been great.
Sailing characterisitcs	We have only sailed her twice since we bought her this May (2007), but both times have been great. the first time the wind was very light and yet she was still quite responsive with only the main sail up. The second time just a couple of days ago on Saratoga Lake in NY the wind was up and she just flew! she heeled just a bit and really made it fun, but she still felt quite stable.
Motoring characterisitcs	we used a small trolling motor that I rented from the local Navy recreation center (even though I'm an Air Force guy) and allthough she didn't move fast, it was enough to get out on the Lake, and I like the light weight of it.
Liveability	we haven't slept on her yet, but my wife did a great job cleaning up the cabin, and we plan on giving it a shot soon.

Other comments	So far this has been a great investment for our family. Our dog even enjoyed sailing on her! We named her "Inspiration" and so far it seems fitting.
