If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Defenitely. We got a really good deal. The O'Day Mariner is the best boat I've ever owned.
Gear that's been added The trailer that came with it was in pretty sorry shape. The boat has recieved a lot of gear. We've bought swim ladders, flagposts, and a lot more I can't remember. We haven't even considered buying a new O/B though. Our Jhonson 4.5 Sea Horse is a great kicker, even though it's ancient.
Structural or complex improvements We haven't made any big changes. The inside was cleaned, but needs to be painted.
The boat's best features My Mariner is a great all around boat. The only thing it lacks is cruising capabilities. My boat is a 1960s model, so it only sleeps 2 uncomforatbly. This fine yacht performs like a racing boat, but has awesome stapability. We have taken it out in very strong wind and it did great. The large cockpit is very nice to have, since we don't spend time below. Up forward in the cabin, there is enough space to put all of your supplies and more. This boat is great!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Like I said the trailer is the only problem. The seal around the hull that binds the deck and hull has begun to come apart.
Sailing characterisitcs I've sailed in strong winds, got beached on a sandbar during a squall, and lots more. This boat has been great to us. It never has tipped over and probably won't no matter what.
Motoring characterisitcs We have an outboard 4.5hp Jhonson Sea Horse and we've never had a problem. It's an old 2 stroke model. I think 4.5 hp is enough power. It can really move the boat. I highly prefer a Jhonson/Evinrude outboard over any other outboard or inboard model.
Liveability It is possible to stay below, but there is very little space. In the newer models of the Mariner, there are two bunks below the cabin seats, but they are very cramped. The head works halfway. It pumps out, but not in. There is no holding tank, so you know where it goes.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I never bought this boat from a dealer, so I wouldn't know. I would prefer buying from an owner than a dealer.
Other comments Not really.
