Location of boat mount sinai new york
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, without a doubt it was a very good buy considering the basic condition of the boat. The jel coat has a great shine and is without scratches. The interior is in very good condition especially the upholstery.
Gear that's been added we have had a new dodger made with more head room. I added a cockpit bimini. Added a helm mounted garmin gps with color fish finder.Added a new hood single line roller furler. Added lazy jacks. Added full battens to the main sail. Had a new main sail cover made. Sent Signet wind speed and direction away to be serviced, installed in boat. Added new fortress anchor. Converted ice box to refrigeration. Removed original kerosene stove and oven and replaced it with a 12 volt refrigerator with a two burner origo stove mounted above it. Replaced all running rigging and head stay. Added a battery charger and a third battery for the refrigeration.
Structural or complex improvements Removed the water heater and sanded all the rust, replaced the heating element and repainted it. In the process of removing any rust or corrosion from the universal diesel in order to repaint it. replaced both alternator and starter, keeping old units as spares. Added tachometer in the cockpit.Replaced many hoses to the holding tank and added new head, y valve, and macerator. Added three teak faced draws under the port settee for more clothes storeage. Added 12,000 btu ac in head closet on shelf. This past fall I have stripped all the bottom paint down to bare fiberglass, best of all there was not one blister to be found any where, I will prep it and paint in the spring
The boat's best features I have owned a number of sail boats including a c and c landfall 43 which we took to the bahammas.I consider the 31 a perfect size for an older guy like me (71) to handle. It handles well docking and if given a start it steers well in reverse. The boat seems to sail very well, especially when the wind pipes up in the twentys. The fuel tank hold 26 gal. which is great for long cruises. The little diesel runs great and sipps very little fuel. Another oustanding feature is the moulded in swim platform for easy boarding.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. At the present time there is only spring loaded stops on the traveler and no control lines, this makes handling the main a pain.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat seems to sail very well in winds that might make other boats round up and give you white knuckles. The boat seems to point very well.
Motoring characterisitcs The little engine is only 14 h.p. so it is limited if you have to push against strong currents, but if you plan the trip right you can do great with the currents. If I were to take it down the intercoastal to florida I would like a 3 cylinder engine, but for normal day sailing the engine is fine.
Liveability As factory made there is not enough places to store clothing. The settees , v bunks and quarter berths are very comfortable. There is not enough room between the mast and the table for heavy set people to sit down. The head is small but large enough for normal use.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought our boat from a private seller.
Other comments Just like to say this is a fine boat for the money and you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It is also a very handsome boat when the teak is done right and the fiberglass waxed.
