Review of the Oday 34 by Alan cooper

Year built 1982
Location of boat Weymouth, MA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, we looked at the C
Gear that's been added I added a Raytheon 570 loran from our old boat a Pearson 30 as the boat came w/an antique Sitex loran.
Structural or complex improvements Yes I replaced the exhaust iron pipe that comes out of the manifold as it had rusted thru just below the raw water inlet pipe. fortunatly we cought this in the survey. I also have replaced the 1982 rusting hot water tank, the corroded water faucet in the head
The boat's best features The best features inside are the galley, ice boxes big quarter berth
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The rudder grease fitting is almost impossible to get at as is the starboard cockpit drain hose stern fitting
Sailing characterisitcs Our 5'7" keel model sails very well
Motoring characterisitcs With the 24 hp Universal model 5424 engine it motors well at 5.5 kts for hours if necessary
Liveability A great boat for 2 to live on for 4-5 weeks, pleanty of head room, lights, hatches,
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought it from Eastern Yacht Sales in Hingham, MA 1/2 mile from our mooring. Shep Shove at Eastern was really helpful in getting it surveyed, the exhaust repaired,
Other comments For the price it cant be beat
