Review of the Oday 240 by Jim Collins

Year built 1989
Location of boat Lake Erie (Mich.)
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely.
Gear that's been added Autotiller
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features It is a very solid, seaworthy boat. The wing keel helps in the shallow west end of Lake Erie.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The jiffy reefy system is very awkward to use, mainly in getting the aft of the main secure to the boom. Requires considerable manual effort to what should be a quick procedure.
Sailing characterisitcs Excellent in all except on a beat.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a long shaft 8 hp Evenrude 2 cycle, which performs very well.
Liveability The cabin is very spacious, with lots of headroom. The enclosed head is especially appreciated on family day sails.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I purchased from an individual.
Other comments It's a great boat, and from what I've seen, a great value. These boats are worth more than what they are selling for.
