Review of the Oday 240 by Mike Papas

Year built 1988
Location of boat Metedecong River, NJ
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, for even more money than I payed this time.
Gear that's been added No gear, just a few custom jobs like cabinets, hatches and shelves. Looking into making the cockpit a little more comfortable with cushions and maybe a a bimini.
Structural or complex improvements not yet
The boat's best features All the controls lead to the cockpit for quick action. The boat feels very sturdy and gives the impression of being very heavy and yet accelerates very rapidly in a good rising wind. Responds well to her helm and to sail trim.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. So far only the masthead light. Maybe it's the bulb or the wiring. When raising the mainsail, it often snags but that can be avoided.
Sailing characterisitcs I've described them above.
Motoring characterisitcs The 8 Hp Johnson at full throtle is loud but vibration free. Generally the boat moves at a good speed.
Liveability I could live in it. It's better than a cardboard box. A house is much better.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought it privately and the previous owner is a gentleman. It was a pleasure dealing with him.
Other comments I've only sailed it once, from the Navesink river, around Sandy Hook, south on the Atlantic for abvout 40 miles to the Metedecong river. A total of about 60 miles. I don't know her yet, but what I do know, I like.
