Review of the Oday 272 by Paul Giordano

Year built 1987
Location of boat Great South Bay, NY
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 209
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I'd buy this boat again as a first boat. It's the perfect boat with a shoal draft or 2'11", sleeping for 5-6 and a port a potty. The inboard deisel is great, because the controls are an easy reach on the starboard side. Only regret is not getting an LE for a lot more money for the marine head and holding tank.
Gear that's been added Added chartplotter to help navigate and avoid shoals. Changed the port a potty to a unit with an MSD with a pumpout connection. Also added shore power via EZAC system so I can charge my batteries with dual guest inverter.
Structural or complex improvements N/A. Need to add a bimini.
The boat's best features Diesel engine and ease of handling. Also roller furler.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Have been out in 4-5" swells and 20mph winds. Normal conditions are 5-10mph winds.
Motoring characterisitcs The diesel has no issues pushing the boat.
Liveability Very comfortable for 2 adults or a young family.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments I'd buy it again, and would consider upgrading in a few years to an O'Day 302 or 32
