Review of the Oday 192 by Jim Gill

Year built 1986
Location of boat Clearlake Calif.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I have owned 6 sailboats 9'to 33'and I feel equally safe in the O'Day as my last Hunter 33'
Gear that's been added This boat had been so well equiped I could not belive it. All sheets lead aft,3winchs,boom vang,Shafer roller, new main and Jib,Spinnaker,Jennaker,2 other jibs.Wisker pole and Spinnaker pole. To top it off a complete four piece snapon canvas cover,a 4hp Evinrude and a trailer. This boat came from San Francisco Bay, where learned to sail it's like new.
Structural or complex improvements No, however the bilge drain hose has been replaced
The boat's best features The BEST pocket cruiser in my opinion. Shallow draft, nice over nighter for two, contoured seating and very easy handling.I know one couple in a 192, stayed one week on the California Delta with no problems.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing since I purchased it 3 years ago!
Sailing characterisitcs She can point well, sail off the wind, and down wind with a spinnaker at ease. After one race my brother and I sailed home to the north end of the lake in no less the 18 knots, beating all the way for 5 hours. It was a blast.
Motoring characterisitcs The 4hp Evinrued works fine, it;s as fast as a 5hp honda 4 stroke
Liveability I have no problem spending the nite or two, she has comfortable bunks.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I am sorry they are not in business any more.
