Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely!! I think she is one of the best built and layed out O'Day I've ever been on. Experienced sailors routinely say she has the room down below, and in the cockpit of a much larger boat. She is also quite fast for a cruiser with virtually the same PHRF handicap of a J-24. My wife and I run a Captained chartering business on the Lake and can take out 8 passengers very comfortably.
Gear that's been added Mostly "creature comforts" including a sterio, 12 volt outlets, 110 volt lamps, new sails (main and roller-furling 140), teak accessories, lots of new running rigging. She was beautifully provisioned when we bought her, including refrigeration, hot and cold pressurized water, adjustable back stay, instrumentation, etc.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Very well layed out for cruising, living aboard, and reasonably fast. She can handle quite a bit of air before becoming overpowered.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think she is a little underpowered. The keel bolts were eiher never tightened or had lossened up over the years. She could use a few more opening ports for ventilation.
Sailing characterisitcs Quite fast for a cruiser, able to handle quite a bit of air, a little sluggish when well off the wind. She has trouble making way in heavy seas.
Motoring characterisitcs I think she is a little underpowered
Liveability Very good!!! We spend a lot of days and nights aboard (usually 3-4 days at a time) and never feel "closed in"
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought her privately.
