Review of the Oday 22 by Paul Geary

Year built 1976
Location of boat Peaks Island , Maine
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definayely... a great 1st boat. It has afforded us the opportunity to learn to sail with a very forgiving boat. it's not fast....but it's stabile
Gear that's been added Ladder, Genoa
Structural or complex improvements Just general repairs. It will need some structural oberhall in a year or so. Needs to be re- rigged
The boat's best features Very easy to sail...not fast but stable. Easy to maintain
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. With the shoal keel...the boat rocks a lot while on the mooriing...waves etc. makes sleeping on the mooring difficult.
Sailing characterisitcs Boat performs well in light wings, but will take a heavy blow well. Some problems with gusty winds, though that could be attributed to my lousy sailing
Motoring characterisitcs 7.5 hp Evinrude. seems do get us in and out , if necessary. Anything smaller might be difficult
Liveability havn't slept on it...Very small quarters below. I'm 6'2" and it causes problems...lots of bumped heads. Someday we'll take it overnight...up the coast
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
