Review of the Oday 23 by Antonio Suescum

Year built 1970
Location of boat Tierra Verde, FL
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, without a doubt! I spent months looking for the right boat (at the right price) and this one was perfect for just about all of my needs. The "Elysium" is the pop-top model that raises the up the whole cabin with one hand crank. This feature alone was enough to make my decision.
Gear that's been added New Blocks for main and headsail, Windvane, VHF, Depth Sounder, Radio,
Structural or complex improvements I bought the boat after years of neglect in saltwater. So, when the Elysium was hauled out for a bottom job, I discovered that the centerboard (swing keel) was jammed beyond help - so I cut it off! I do have a good amount of slip, but I am still very happy with her performance.
The boat's best features The pop-top, when it is raised I have approximately 6'4" headroom.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The centerboard - I had to cut if off because it was so jammed and corroded.
Sailing characterisitcs Great! She is very responsive and lively. Extremely easy to single-hand.
Motoring characterisitcs I have found that a 6hp engine moves along at hull speed with any problem.
Liveability Elysium has plenty of space and room for a 23' boat. I can spend 2-3 days/nights on her without a problem (2 people). What I do run short on is ICE!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I love it!
