Review of the Oday 30 by Larry Albert

Year built 1980
Location of boat Branford CT
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes.Very stable in wind conditions forced others to reef. Also very comfortable and roomy enough for cruising couple
Gear that's been added The boat had been up graded w/new winches,bimini,dodger,150 genoa and new lines. I added auto pilot ST4000 and lazy jacks, rebuilt water pump
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Sturdy structure-- Universal 16 hp has run flawlessly w/ regular maintenance
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Porthole latches deteriorated and break. Stantions could use reinforcement
Sailing characterisitcs Slow in light winds even / 150 genoa Rolls going downwind
Motoring characterisitcs Slow but enough power to overcome tides and currents
Liveability I find berths ample and comfortable
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought through a broker. OK experience but some can be pushy
Other comments I plan to keep this boat for a long time and so far it has proven to be very reliable and comfortable
