Review of the Oday 28 by David Fales

Year built 1980
Location of boat Norwalk, CT
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Just bought it.
Gear that's been added Needs lots of work, including replacement of OMC Saildrive. Will be adding a Merc 9.9 Bigfoot 25" outboard until I can figure out an inboard solution. Needs a new Main, probably from UK Sails. May add roller furl.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Clean lines, spacious interior altho cockpit is a little small. Hull and deck in great shape, almost no crazing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments this is my third O'Day. 17' Day Sailor I 23' Tempest and I had a Pearson 26. The O'Day is much nicer than a Pearson 28 I also considered.
