Review of the Oday 12 by William Foster

Year built 1976
Location of boat Grass Lake, MI
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes.
Gear that's been added No.
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features The two features I enjoy most are the simplicity of the boat. And its ability to handle family of four. One person can rig, launch and sail it.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I would greatly prefer a kick up style rudder to the fixed rudder with which the Twelve is equiped . We have had a cleat break off. Otherwise we are satisfied with our learning vessel.
Sailing characterisitcs We are beginning sailors so by definition our experiences are few, but it seems that the Twelve moves easily in slight breezes. And the flip side is also true. When gusts arise, we have to be watchful,as we heel enough to sometimes shake our confidence.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
