Review of the Oday 28 by joe erlemann

Year built 1983
Location of boat Lake Michigan
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1991
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Great for trips and is very easy to handle. You always want a larger boat but the 28 is more than enough to sleep 3-4.
Gear that's been added auto pilot, bildge, stero and a few other comforts
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features It handels like a dream
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. nothing that I can think of. the travler is mounted directly in from of the companionway which makes it a bit cumbersome to get in and out at times
Sailing characterisitcs Typically I sail in 10-15 knot winds and ocasionally reef. We have been through storms with 12' waves and 45 knot winds. she is a tough old bird
Motoring characterisitcs i would like a stronger motor but the 2 cyc. desil does the trick.
Liveability Qiute liveable. I spent two months on the boat when my wife threw me out of the house.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought it from a personal friend who assisted me in the selection.
Other comments I wish they still made them
