Review of the Oday 30 by Joe Lynch

Year built 1982
Location of boat Bridgeport,CT
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Most definitely. I'm sorry that O'Day's are not still manufactured. She is a beautiful responsive boat.
Gear that's been added We added nothing When we bought her she came with radar, chartplotter, and Loran
Structural or complex improvements No changes
The boat's best features She is a sound boat very responsive and forgiving boat perfect for our style of sailing
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We had some leaks around the stanchions that we fixed. Whenwe were buying the boat the surveyor pointed out two soft spots. One where the traveller was located and another on the deck forward of the mast. Both required pretty extensive reglassing.
Sailing characterisitcs Doing 6 knots into a summer sunset on a flat sea, coming about and sailing east torward a full moon. The most glorious feeling one could ever experience.
Motoring characterisitcs Plowing into 6+ sea's off off stonington CT bringing her back to Bridgeport on a very cold Sat. this May 2002. Even though we were rocking and rolling I felt secure and safe. The boat handled very well
Liveability Very comfortable. Cabin is very roomy.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Its importan that you are ar ease with the broker or dealer. Otherwise its just like buying an used car.
Other comments I wish they were still making these boats.I understand that a few molds made it to Japan where they are being made in that country.
