How the boat is used Weekends and longer

Average size of crew 2-4

Owner bought the boat in 1985
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added vhf.am/fm stereo additional bilge pump in aft lazzerette. All new opening ports and Bomar hatch. New set of working sails and rigged for spinnaker a new genoa is on the way.
Structural or complex improvements from the foward bulkhead(anchor line locker)aft all wood has been replaced including floors , new v-berths small galley and enclosed pota-poti.The main bulkhead, and companionway added, also a new cockpit sole with the foward 2' raised 6" for storage of cooler underneath. The boat did not have and outboard well so that has been also added .
The boat's best features This boat has been very good to us and the hull is very strong even after 37 years. Not knowing much of her previous use, I can say we have sailed her in lots of different conditions to a number different of ports trusting in her to be seaworthy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The original cockpit cores(balsa) as I have sen on other Tempest have become spongy due to delamination. The rudder needs to be inspected annualy due to delamination and easy to remove.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails well to windward and is quite quick however in winds 15 and above she gets very wet and will require a reef and steering up over waves to avoid pounding.Sailng dead before the wind the boat is sluggish and it is best to tack her downwind on long runs.
Motoring characterisitcs We have recently bought a new eninrude 8 and have found that to be better than the previous 6. After a bad experience coming out of the Cape Cod Canal due to lack of power the 8 was a welcome addition. Like any sailboat reverse is always a challange and should only be depended on to slow you down if needed at docking.
Liveability For one person it is feasable, I actualy lived on this boat one year just to do it and in the winter with a heater it works.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Overall this has been a great boat. Their are quite a few Tempest for sale real cheap as low as $500.00 but they will require lots of attention but to any starting out this is agood boat and I would share any information I have with anyone on trying to make and older Tempest seaworthy again.
