Review of the Oday 23 by C. Lash

Year built 1982
Location of boat Barren River Lake, KY
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. For the cost of the boat I feel it was well worth the purchase. Besides, the two previous owners took good care of the boat and added lots of extras.
Gear that's been added I've only been sailing the boat for two months. Over the winter, I will ad a new compus and rig the boat for solo sailing.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet.
The boat's best features It's easy to handle and responds well in a variety of wind conditions. There's enough room for three or four people to sit and move about comfortably. It's very stable for a boat its size. It feels like a larger boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing yet.
Sailing characterisitcs I've sailed in light winds to blows of 15 to 20 knotts. I got hit with an unexpected wind gust with the 150 and it layed over considerably but came up nicely into wind.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 7.5 outboard that I only use to get in and out of the marina.
Liveability It seems comfortable, but I haven't stayed on it overnight. I don't like the low head room.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Buying from Harbor North was a very good experience. They took care of all the necessary paperwork and got me on the water.
Other comments The O'Day Web site lacks access to replacement parts for the 23. Also, they never answered my Email with regard to the parts.
