Review of the Oday Mariner by Dave DeWitt

Year built 1970
Location of boat Mechanicsburg Pa
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitly yes.Was in very good shape when I bought it. Just needed a new trailer and the price was right.
Gear that's been added No new gear. Replaced some of the old gear. New backstay, jib sheet fairleads and cleats.
Structural or complex improvements Just removed the head. replaced with a portapotty. works very well. Put a new coat of paint on it.
The boat's best features First boat. Handles very well, easy boat to learn on. Moves along in medium air while being very stable. We had a great deal of fun on this boat this summer. Had to trailer the boat all summer because of the drought. Lake Marburg was too low to use the docks. I was able to step the mast myself. All in all was not a bad boat to trailer.I have the 2+2 so it has a fair amount of storage if you use the quarter berths. It also has storage in the cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs I use a british seagull. Its a five horse two stoke. It pushes the boat along very well. Only use it when absolutly nessesary.
Liveability Have not tryed sleeping on board yet.I will be trying it next year. Need to rig with lights. Have also been told that sailing on lake marburg on a moon lit night is unforgetable. Want to find out for myself.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
