Review of the Oday Mariner by Aurel Bisaillon

Year built 1965
Location of boat Selkirk Ontario.
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yup!!!
Gear that's been added I replaced my bow eye after it broke off in a storm. My own fault for tieing too close to a shallow mooring.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features She refuses to tip! When she heels far enough over to spill the wind out of the sails, she just rounds up. A very forgiving boat. She sails in a foot of water with just a few inches if board down which is great here on Lake Erie. You can sneak right up on the beach and step out. The transom and motor well are low enough to the waterline so you don't need a long shaft kicker.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Bailing after a heavy rain is the pits. Its pretty cramped belowdecks but not bad for a 19 footer.
Sailing characterisitcs A good stable boat thats easy to learn on. She's kind of slow in light air but what boat isn't.
Motoring characterisitcs I have no motor.
Liveability Oh Man, she's small but I'm 250 lbs. I've slept out a few times and she's way better than a tent on the ground.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought it privately.
Other comments I love my Mariner!;D)))
