Review of the Oday Javelin by J Ranney

Year built 1972
Location of boat Minnesota
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, this is a good boat to learn to sail in.
Gear that's been added none. In fact, I could use some help in finding out how to rig the sail and mast on this boat. I could also use some pictures as to how the rigging is for the centerboard, as mine is on a frayed cable and very difficult to raise.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Ease of launching and one person can sail it.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The retraction mechanism of the center board. It looks like mine was modified and not done very well.
Sailing characterisitcs Very stable boat.
Motoring characterisitcs N/A
Liveability N/A
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I would like to find out how the auto bailer is supposed to work as mine just allows water into the boat not out so I have the drain hole plugged. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
