Review of the Oday 322 by gary curtis

Year built 1987
Location of boat fort myers,florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, with reservations
Gear that's been added yes,two years ago we hauled the boat for seven month and totally refit her. we were really unhappy with the look of the gray gel coat. ten years of sun did it in,so imron won out! coka cola red with white trim stripe changed to black. Like everyone else I found the boat to be way underpowered so we repowered with 28hp kubota 3 banger mated to 3 blade max prop giving us 7 knots all day, though swim platform goes underwater.we added a 3.5kw generator from nextgen placed in back of engine, turn back quarter berth to single to inclose engine/gen/ac unit. replaced primary barient winches with antal #52 so my wife could do some trimming.we added refrig with fan driven condenser in box (a must it works great because factory box insulation was crap)
Structural or complex improvements when repowering we reglassed engine pan because it was pretty flimsy, replaced all hoses, added three stage charger and added starter battery plus we put cocktail seats built into the stern rail I have a good welder and he copied the design of all the new boats that have rail seats only ours hang out a bit, very exciting under sail and backing into our slip they can be piling grabers
The boat's best features shallow draft and 48 ft mast is the only we can gunkhole in sw fla
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. roller furling should have been replaced when the mast was off.cabin portholes need to be upgraded.
Sailing characterisitcs boat sails well, spinnaker needed on long runs, boat backs of sand well
Motoring characterisitcs now or then? boat is night and day with new engine we pass people, and have been able to take hours off destinations that require long periods of motoring. 3blade max prop allows me to manuever in reverse without fear.
Liveability sleeps two
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I had a good broker and yard bought it right before a florida hurricane they got it out of the water and safe right before it hit.
