Review of the Oday 27 by Gil Scott

Year built 1975

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2002  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes....unless i had alot more money, for the price its a great boat.  
Gear that's been added new sails on order,auto bilge pump,boat was well equiped when i got it, want to add main traveler but havent figured out the best way yet,  
Structural or complex improvements cockpit floor had 12-18" hole in it.,,repaired with marine plywood and many many layers of fiberglass. im sure the floor is better built now than when new. original owner added a few hundred pounds to the keel for great lakes racing.  
The boat's best features cabin size for a 27'. good boat in a blow.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. no main traveler, trying to figure out a good main traveler system that allows my dodger to stay in place.  
Sailing characterisitcs sails well in a stiff breeze, boat needs a big genoa to point well. competes weekly in club racing and does well on windy days. light air days can be a challenge.  
Motoring characterisitcs vire 7 is a strange but great little motor. it doesnt get any simpler than that. has plenty of power to push boat at hull speed when needed and maintain control in a breeze. no engine oil to worry about so heeling when running is no problem. also runs on a mag...no battery needed to run or start. easy access from quarter berths.  
Liveability as roomy as a 27 footer from that ere can be. great weekender or vacation boat but with no hot water or refrigeration i wouldnt call it a liveaboard.
