Review of the Oday 30 by JEFF

Year built 1983
Location of boat LITTLE RIVER, SC
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES. I CAN'T THINK OF A FINER FIRST BOAT. SHE IS EASY TO SAIL, FUN TO BE ON, COMFORTABLE BOTH AT THE DOCK AND ON THE OPEN OCEAN.
Gear that's been added NO. NO NEED TO WITHOUT A SERIOUS COMMENTMENT TO RACING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
Structural or complex improvements NO.
The boat's best features BEAM, BEAM, BEAM. NO FUSS RIGGING SET UP. EVERYONE WHO COMES ABOARD (EVEN AN OWNER OF A 38FT HINCKLEY AND 390 BENETEAU) HAS BEEN BLOWN AWAY WITH THE INTERIOR SET UP AND SIZE FOR A 20 YEAR OLD BOAT THAT IS ONLY 30FT.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. THE TOE RAILS AND HAND RAILS. THEY LEAK AND LEAK AND LEAK AND NOTHING WE DO STOPS IT.
Sailing characterisitcs VERY COMFORTABLE RIDE EVEN IN 25 KNOTS OF WIND. TAKES THE WAVES WELL. BUT IN RACES SHE IS A DOG DOWN WIND. WE ARE ALWAYS PASSED ON THE DOWN WIND LEG ON RACES BY HIGHER PHRF'ed BOATS.
Motoring characterisitcs A BIT LOUD. CAN NOT HEAR THE ON BOARD VHF WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON UNLESS YOU ARE IN THE CABIN.
Liveability OUTSTANDING!!!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any DID NOT CARE FOR THEM. THEY ARE NOW OUT OF BUISNESS. 'NUFF SAID.
Other comments SHE IS A PART OF ME. I CAN'T THINK OF A HAPPY DAY WITHOUT HER.
