Review of the Oday Widgeon by Greg Bernu

Year built 1973
Location of boat Duluth, MN
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes.
Gear that's been added I carpeted the inside of the boat with outdoor carpeting. The fiberglass needed fixing, so after repairing that, I added the carpeting on top for a little extra creature comfort. I thought about adding cam cleats for the jib to make for easier solo sailing in 10+ kt. winds.
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features Easy and quick to set up by one person. It's easy to sail and can be perky in stronger winds.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems at all. This has been a good little boat.
Sailing characterisitcs It's a solid little sailer, and difficult to roll over.
Motoring characterisitcs I have used both a 2HP gas motor and small electric trolling motor for passage in and out of harbors. The Widgeon handles nicely.
Liveability N/A
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) [builder]
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments An easy boat to trailer and handle at the dock as well as the great on water characteristics
